1. Confirm your required education first
Colorado resident applicants generally need approved prelicensing education before taking the Accident & Health exam, unless an exemption applies. Regulation 1-2-5 specifies 50 hours for this line, including three hours of ethics, three hours of general Colorado insurance law, and four hours of line-specific Colorado law.
Verify your situation and provider approval using the official resources. A supplemental study product cannot substitute for an approved course or issue the required completion certificate. Read Colorado Regulation 1-2-5, sections 5–8.
2. Make the official outline your checklist
Use the Accident & Health portions of Pearson VUE’s current Colorado content outlines to check your coverage. Life and Accident & Health are separate lines of authority. For a practical study order, build the vocabulary of contracts first. Then work through how policies pay, what different products cover, the provisions that govern a claim, and the rules that govern a producer’s conduct. Use this as an organizing aid alongside the official outline:
- Contracts, risk, applications, underwriting, and policy delivery.
- Medical expense coverage, deductibles, coinsurance, and plan structures.
- Disability income, long-term care, and policy provisions.
- Medicare and other federal programs, group coverage, and coordination.
- Colorado producer law, health-specific requirements, and ethics.

3. Give each short session a purpose
A practical starting routine is 20 minutes: spend five recalling yesterday’s distinctions, ten learning and applying one concept, and five checking answers and choosing the next topic. Adjust the time to your schedule. This is a suggested study routine, not approved instructional credit.
- Recall before rereading. Close the explanation and describe the rule in your own words. “Coinsurance is a percentage” is more useful than recognizing the word on a page.
- Explain the alternatives. For each missed question, identify why your answer was tempting and which fact makes another answer work. A correct guess deserves review too.
- Change the example. If you understood a worked calculation, try it with a different allowed charge. If you learned a definition, recognize it in a short scenario.
- Come back later. Revisit the concept in another session and mix it with older topics. Repeating one familiar quiz can make recognition feel stronger than your underlying understanding.
When you have several weak topics, start with one. Repair the explanation, answer fresh questions, and then move on. A mastery display should help you make that choice, rather than becoming another dashboard to manage.
